Preserving Your Grindstone's Condition
Frequent sharpening can cause your grindstone to become uneven. The TT-50 Truing Tool, with its patented technology, allows for easy correction of any distortions, ensuring the stone’s roundness and flatness. This is especially crucial when sharpening tools that require a perfectly flat surface, such as planer blades and plane irons.
Despite its wide compatibility, the TT-50 should not be used on diamond grinding wheels due to their steel body, as it could damage both the wheel and the tool.
Enhanced Precision and User-Friendliness
Constructed from cast zinc, the TT-50 Truing Tool reduces play, enhancing both the tool’s precision and the quality of your grindstone’s surface. The tool’s design allows for smooth operation, with dual knobs for even control over the diamond tip’s movement across the stone. The universal support guides the tool, ensuring a surface that’s always parallel to the jig’s tool.
The depth of cut is finely adjustable via the Micro Adjust on the universal support, with a scale for precise material removal. This feature allows for customization of the grindstone’s surface texture based on the desired roughness, influencing the rate of steel removal during sharpening.
Adaptable Surface Texture
The speed at which you move the diamond tip across the stone can be adjusted to achieve the desired surface roughness. A faster feed rate results in a coarser surface, beneficial for sharpening hard steel tools with large surfaces.
Conversely, a slower feed rate yields a finer surface, though it will always be more textured than the surface created by the coarse side of the SP-650 Stone Grader.
Compatibility with Earlier Tormek Models
Owners of older Tormek models without Micro Adjust can upgrade their machines with the US-105 Universal Support for larger models or the US-103 Universal Support for smaller models, enabling the use of the TT-50 Truing Tool.
Diamond Tip Replacement
When the diamond tip of the TT-50 wears out, it can be replaced with the ADV-D Diamond Exchange Tip for TT-50. Before replacing, try rotating the worn tip slightly; this may expose new diamonds and extend the tip’s life for additional uses.
